Employers can help shape future of skills development

Sep 5, 2025 | News

Employers are being offered a unique opportunity to influence the future of skills development in the region.

A series of breakfast roundtable meetings, hosted by some of Staffordshire’s leading employers, will provide a platform for businesses to share their insights into current and emerging skills needs.

The discussions will play a vital role in shaping future skills provision and ensuring local and national policies reflect the real needs of businesses.

The initiative forms part of the Staffordshire Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) commissioned by the Department for Education and led by Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce since September 2022.

The initial LSIP report, published in August 2023, outlined key priorities to foster stronger collaboration between employers and training providers.

The Chamber’s LSIP team is conducting its annual review, focusing on sectors such as engineering and advanced manufacturing, construction, health and social care, advanced logistics, decarbonisation and energy agriculture.

Themes include digital transformation, green skills and the shift towards low-carbon, clean growth.

Discussions will cover the latest LSIP findings, a roadmap for the year ahead and the challenges and opportunities of upskilling staff.
