Rishi Sunak has created a Plan for Jobs will help to kickstart the nation’s economic recovery. He has been quoted saying “We know apprenticeships work. 91% stay in work or go on to further training.” With this new scheme the hopes are to kickstart the economy after the Covid-19 crisis.
With the value of apprenticeships becoming ever highlighted for young learners’ part of the scheme focuses on incentivising these. The new scheme will begin 1st August 2020 and will run for 6 months to the 31st January 2021.
The incentives will work on two increments. For those aged 16-24-year-old the incentive will be £2,000. For those aged 25 or over the incentive payment will be £1,500. These payments will be made direct to the employer (after claiming) in two instalments. The first payment will be made after 90 days and the final payment will be made on day 365. The claims for the extra incentive payments will be made by the employer. These incentives do not affect the existing payment of £1,000 for 16-18-year olds.
The apprentice must be a new employee to the business and must not have been employed by the employer within the six months prior to the contract start date.

Falling in line with the new apprentice scheme will be the deadline for the switch from frameworks to standards. All new apprenticeships from the 1st of August must be a standard.
