Members of the apprenticeship community will gather in Birmingham tomorrow for a bi-annual conference and careers event.

Thousands of businesses, young people and their parents are set to attend the National Apprenticeship and School Leavers Event and Conference at Millennium Point.

The Ladder for Greater Birmingham initiative is a partner and will have a presence there and its chairman Kevin Davis will formally open the conference.

Mr Davis said: “I’m so pleased to help kick off this event again. As chairman of the Ladder Apprenticeship Foundation and The Mercian Multi-Academy Trust, the event marries both my interests in secondary education and apprenticeships.

“Given the challenges the pandemic has posed to education and work, the importance of ensuring our students and apprentices get quality advice and guidance, which the event offers, is significant at this stage of their vocational journey.”

Ladder partners who will be exhibiting at the event include BCTG, the Apprenticeship works and PTP Training, along with members of the Birmingham & Solihull Provider Network.

Justine Johnson, who manages the Ladder for Greater Birmingham campaign, said: “When we attended last year it was our first face-to-face event since the pandemic in 2020.

“The event was well attended with a real breadth of exhibitors giving visitors a clear understanding of the career choices available.

“This year all our organisations have seen a huge surge in demand for information and attendance at careers events and we are expecting bumper attendance figures as more people seek guidance and information – particularly about apprenticeships.”

The National Apprenticeship and School Leavers Event is held every March and October, with 10,000 visitors attending every year.

Starting at 9.30am, more than 80 businesses are expected to be in attendance, showcasing their job opportunities to an audience of 14 to 35 year olds.
